Creating Classroom Cultures inspired by Powerful Change-makers
I recently received my Multiple Subject Credential from Mills College and currently teach 6th grade humanities in the Bay Area.
I was brought up in the Midwest and have lived on both coasts. Before moving to the Bay, I taught at an Alternative Elementary School which focussed on Social Justice Education and Social Emotional Growth with the intention of teaching to the whole child .
I believe it is my responsibility, as a white female identified teacher, to make room for multiple perspectives and to work towards opening up a dialogue that goes beyond the dominate narrative of the educational system. It is imperative that I weave Ethnic Studies curriculum into the classroom so as to emphasize and celebrate the multiple perspectives that reflect the lives of our students and the diverse community where we live.
I feel honored to participate in the Elementary Ethnic Studies Project and hope to extend my own learning while in the classroom.
